Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has declared that the Black Stars will approach the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the ambition of playing attractive football and winning every match as they seek to make the nation proud.
The four-time African champions arrived at their training base in Rhode Island on Thursday ahead of their opening Group L fixture against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.
Despite a difficult build-up to the tournament, which saw Ghana fail to win any of their six preparatory matches, recording five defeats and one draw, Queiroz remains confident in his team’s ability to compete on the biggest stage.
Speaking to FIFA after the team’s arrival in the United States, the 73-year-old outlined his expectations for the tournament and stressed the responsibility the players carry as representatives of the nation.
“Our expectation is to go out, play the best football and win every single game. We carry the hopes and dreams of millions of people on our shoulders, and we want to make them proud,” he said.
Following their opening clash against Panama, Ghana will face England at Gillette Stadium in Boston on June 23 before wrapping up their Group L campaign against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.
The Black Stars are aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Ghana suffered group-stage exits at the 2014 tournament in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar and will be hoping to reverse that trend this year.
