Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo believes Ghana have the quality to compete strongly at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the team prepares for the global tournament in North America.
Ghana secured qualification for the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup despite the disappointment of missing out on the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia for the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Speaking in an interview with FIFA, Semenyo expressed confidence in the Black Stars squad, saying the players are determined to create their own success story on football’s biggest stage.
“I think that’s the intention. I feel like we do want to write our own story. We’ve got such a good team, and we just need to prove to the world that we can be up there and compete with everyone else,” Semenyo said.
“I feel like that’s the only question right now, so once we do that, that’ll be the story written.”
The forward also shared his personal ambition for the tournament, insisting Ghana can progress beyond the group stage and potentially achieve something memorable.
“I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think, for me personally, getting through the group stage would be a start for us. I feel like we can go on and do special things,” he added.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17 before taking on England at Boston Stadium on June 23.
The Black Stars will conclude their Group L campaign against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27 as they aim to secure a place in the knockout stage.
