Black Stars forward Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed confidence that Ghana can progress beyond the group stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia at the tournament.
Despite their pedigree as four-time African champions, Ghana have struggled historically to progress beyond the group stage, with exits recorded in both 2014 and 2022.
The team will open their campaign against Panama on Wednesday at BMO Field in Toronto, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. Their final group match will come against Croatia on June 27.
Issahaku, who plays for Leicester City, remains optimistic about the squad’s chances and says the team is building strong momentum in training.
“Looking at the team, I have so much confidence in the guys,” he told Ghana FA Media.
“Everyone is ready, and the training we’re doing is helping. I think it’s going to make us fitter, improve us, and help the team move forward,” he added.
Ghana will be aiming to avoid a third consecutive group-stage exit and reach the knockout rounds for the first time since 2010 at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
