The Black Stars of Ghana have changed their initially assigned training base ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as preparations intensify for their opening match against Panama.

Before the team arrived in the United States, one of the tournament’s co-hosts, FIFA, had designated Bryant University in Boston as Ghana’s official training base for the competition.

However, concerns emerged after the Black Stars held their first two training sessions at the facility.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz expressed concerns that the team’s training sessions were open to students and members of the public, raising concerns about privacy and security as Ghana fine-tunes its preparations for the global showpiece.

Following the concerns raised by the experienced Portuguese tactician, protocol officer, Alex Asante, assistant coach Desmond Ofei and high performance coach, John Paintsil, were tasked with identifying a more suitable training venue for the team.

After reviewing available options, the Black Stars have now moved their training to a facility in Virginia.

According to Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, speaking exclusively to Asempa FM revealed that the new arrangement will come at an additional cost.

The entire Ghana delegation, including players and officials, has already settled into the new training camp as the team continues preparations for its World Cup campaign.

The Black Stars are expected to maintain an intensive training schedule ahead of their Group L opener against Panama on June 17.

Ghana had initially planned to assess their readiness through an international friendly against Honduras, but the match was cancelled after the Central American side withdrew from the arrangement.

Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and has been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The four-time African champions will begin their campaign against Panama at BMO Field on June 17 before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Croatia on June 27.

Under the leadership of Queiroz, Ghana will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage and reach the knockout rounds for the first time since the 2010 World Cup.

The Black Stars were eliminated in the group phase at both the 2014 and 2022 editions of the tournament.
