Two(2) persons have been confirmed dead and over 11 have suffered varying degrees of injuries after a Tarkwa bound Ford passenger vehicle with registration number GX 2550-16 was involved in an accident.

The driver and his mate who are among the injured persons reveal that they were travelling to Tarkwa in the Western Region from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region when they were involved in the accident on the Obuasi – Dunkwa road.

According to the Obuasi Police, the vehicle believed to have been on top speed burst a rear tyre resulting in the accident which saw the vehicle somersaulting severally before coming to a halt throwing some of the victims off-board.

Augustine Kyei who was a passenger onboard the vehicle explained “we were travelling from Kumasi to Tarkwa but after Obuasi, one of the rear tyres burst and the driver panicked. He went and hit a culvert and the vehicle made a sudden turn when it happened that way three persons died including one man who had his head off. Some of them were not seatbelts but I was lucky I was”

Regina Fosuaa a Senior Nursing Officer at the Emergency Unit of Obuasi Government Hospital revealed that two persons are in a critical condition out of the 11 persons who were injured.

“Two of those seriously injured have been stabilized and will be observed closely”, she revealed.
