The Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, has arrived at Akyem Abuakwa where he is guest to the Okyenehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Oforipene.

The historic visit comes years after [1717] Opemsuo Osei Tutu led an Asante regiment into Akyem where he was subsequently killed while crossing the Pra River with his rear army.

The visit is expected to bring some real benefits to the subjects and areas of both leaders.

The visit, specifically, celebrates the 75th anniversary of Nana Ofori Atta who was the Omanhene of Akyem Abuakwa from 1912 to 1943.

Nana Ofori Atta was also the longest-serving African on the Legislative Assembly (then the de facto Parliament) of the Gold Coast”.

  1. I am happy about this historic visit. But please let’s cross-check history Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is not the first to visit the Okyehene’s palace since 1717. I have forgotten the actual date, but between 1986 and 1990, I was a school boy by then, the Late Otumfuo Opoku Ware II by road visited the Okyehene’s palace. Just I as I said, I was among school children who lined up along the Kumasi-Accra Highway to welcome Otumfuo Opoku Ware II as got out of his car and hugged the late Nifahene of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area and Chief of Asiakwa Osabarima Agyemang III, before proceeding to Kyebi for that historic visit. It became history as the first Asante King to cross River Pra to Akyem by road. Baffuor Owiredu-Amoh
