Thirteen inmates at the Sunyani Central Prison have been formally confirmed into the Catholic faith during a pastoral visit by the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi.

The ceremony took place during a Holy Mass held within the prison facility, where twelve male inmates and one female inmate received the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The rite marks their full initiation into the Catholic Church and a deepening of their spiritual commitment.

The visit formed part of the Bishop’s pastoral engagement with inmates, aimed at promoting spiritual growth, moral renewal and rehabilitation within the correctional system.

In addition to the confirmation service, Bishop Gyamfi also extended material support to the prison community, donating clothing, shoes and bags to improve the welfare of inmates.

Several organisations also contributed to the initiative, providing refreshments and additional support items for the inmates during the visit.

Receiving the donations on behalf of the prison, the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regional Commander and Officer-in-Charge of the facility, DDP Thompson Otsyokpo, expressed gratitude for the gesture and assured that the items would be put to good use.

He reaffirmed the commitment of prison authorities to rehabilitation and reintegration programmes, noting that such spiritual and material interventions play a key role in transforming the lives of inmates.
