Zoomlion Ghana Limited has moved to reassure aggrieved fumigation workers under the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA) Fumigation Project that their outstanding salaries will be paid, blaming the delay on the late release of government funds.
In a statement issued in Accra on Monday, August 3, management said it was aware of growing concerns among workers over unpaid arrears and pledged that every legitimate payment owed would be settled “as soon as the necessary funds are received.”
The company insisted the current hold-up is out of character, pointing to a 15-year track record of meeting its obligations to workers and field operatives on the fumigation project nationwide.
What’s causing the delay
According to Zoomlion, the non-payment stems from delays in the release of funds under the MMDA Fumigation Project contract, not from any failure on the company’s part.
Management said it has been in ongoing talks with the Government of Ghana and the various assemblies to unlock the outstanding funds, describing the engagements as constructive.
It added that it has received assurances the disbursement process is being finalised.
Company’s appeal to workers
Zoomlion thanked the affected workers for their patience and dedication, acknowledging the hardship caused by the delay and crediting them with playing a key role in vector control and sanitation efforts across the country.
The company also acknowledged workers’ right to peaceful agitation, saying it saw the protests as a sign of shared urgency to resolve the matter.
It appealed to the workers to remain calm and stay confident that ongoing engagements will bring the issue to a close soon.
