Environment, Science and Technology Minister-designate Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has disclosed that she will relinquish her position as Second Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament if Parliament approves her nomination to the ministerial post.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings made this known during her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
She was responding to a question from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin on whether she had already resigned from the continental parliamentary body ahead of her proposed appointment.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings explained that she is required to return to the Pan-African Parliament and formally submit her resignation after securing parliamentary approval for the ministerial position.
“The procedure per the Pan-African Parliament is in the next section. I am to go back and formally hand in my resignation,” she said.
Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor clarified that the resignation would follow her approval as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings was elected Second Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament in April 2026 after securing 131 votes, defeating her opponent, who obtained 51 votes.
She became a member of Ghana’s delegation to the Pan-African Parliament in July 2025.
The Pan-African Parliament, an organ of the African Union, is mandated to promote African integration, cooperation and democratic governance across member states.
Its Bureau comprises the President and four Vice-Presidents, who provide leadership and oversight for the affairs of the continental legislature.
If approved as Minister, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings will therefore relinquish her leadership role at the Pan-African Parliament to take up her new responsibilities in Ghana’s government.
