The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has challenged the Minority in Parliament to invite him to appear before the Public Accounts Committee to answer questions about the operations of GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP).

Mr Gyamfi said the Minority does not need a special motion or an order from the Speaker to get him before Parliament.

His comments follow calls by the Minority for a parliamentary investigation into GoldBod’s operations and its alleged role in the losses recorded by the central bank under the DGPP.

The Minority has accused GoldBod of acting as the Bank of Ghana’s “alter ego” and linked the institution to about US$1.7 billion, equivalent to roughly GH¢22 billion, in losses recorded under the programme in 2025.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, Mr Gyamfi said he was ready to appear before Parliament and respond to the allegations.

“There’s been a call for a parliamentary probe and I’ve already stated on public record that I’m waiting with bated breath for Afenyo-Markin’s invitation.

“And I don’t know why he’s delaying and holding press conferences when as Minority Leader, he can get a Public Accounts Committee to summon me tomorrow or today and I will appear,” he said.

Mr Gyamfi argued that parliamentary procedures should not prevent the Minority from inviting him to answer questions about the claims.

He said he had also contacted Majority Leader James Agalga and asked him to help facilitate an invitation if the Minority Leader was unwilling to initiate the process.

“You don’t need any special motion. You don’t need any special order by the Speaker. Just get Public Accounts Committee to invite us and come and sit down there and come and demonstrate to the whole nation where the Gold Board made losses or how the Gold Board is to blame for losses made by another institution. We are waiting for that,” he said.

Mr Gyamfi maintained that he was prepared to face Parliament and provide explanations on GoldBod’s role in the DGPP, challenging the Minority to substantiate its claims about the institution’s involvement in the reported losses.
