The Ahafo Regional Directorate of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has presented start-up kits to district directors for distribution to 620 young people who have completed skills training programmes across the region.
The beneficiaries, drawn from six districts, have completed six months of intensive apprenticeship training in various trades, including hairdressing, carpentry, masonry and catering.
Speaking to Adom News at Goaso during the presentation, Ahafo Regional YEA Director Razak Awudu said the provision of the tools forms part of the Agency’s support for beneficiaries to transition from training into self-employment.
He explained that the initiative is intended to equip the trained youth with the basic tools required to establish their own businesses and put their newly acquired skills to productive use.
The start-up kits are to be distributed to beneficiaries in Asunafo North, Asunafo South, Asutifi North, Asutifi South, Tano North and Tano South.
Mr Awudu directed the district directors to ensure that the items are distributed fairly and in accordance with guidelines from the National and Regional Directorates.
He said the intervention is expected to help create opportunities for the beneficiaries to become economically active while contributing to efforts to address youth unemployment in the Ahafo Region.
The District YEA Directors for Asutifi South and Tano North, Isaac Yaw Mensah and Justice Acheampong, respectively, commended the intervention, saying the provision of start-up tools would help beneficiaries build on the skills acquired during their apprenticeship.
They pledged to ensure a fair distribution of the items and encouraged young people in their respective districts to take advantage of the various skills training and employment opportunities offered by the YEA.
