Government has commenced land preparation for the construction of a modern 400-bed Mother and Child Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The project, according to Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is intended to replace the hospital’s existing and dilapidated Maternity Unit.
In a post on X , Minister of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the project forms part of President John Mahama’s efforts to invest in major, world-class health infrastructure.
The new facility is expected to provide a range of specialised services and units, including Obstetrics and Gynaecology Wards, Labour and Delivery Suites, Operating Theatres, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
It will also include a High Dependency Unit (HDU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technology Centre, as well as Antenatal and Postnatal Clinics.
Other facilities will include Fertility and Reproductive Health Clinics, Breastfeeding and Family Planning Units, an Emergency Obstetric Care Unit, Diagnostic Imaging Department, Laboratory and Blood Bank Facilities, and a Pharmacy Department.
The project will further provide a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Units, alongside facilities for teaching, research and conferences.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu described the development as part of President Mahama’s renewed investment in major health infrastructure aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the country.
