Some residents of Yawkwei in the Asante Akyem Central and South Municipalities are appealing to the government to pay them compensation for lands and properties acquired for the construction of the Konongo-Odumasi-Yawkwei highway.
The affected residents say their farms and houses were demolished in 2023 to make way for the road project under the previous administration, but they are yet to receive compensation.
Speaking to Adom News, the residents expressed frustration over the prolonged delay, saying the situation has placed financial difficulties on families whose livelihoods depended on the affected properties and farmlands.
They are therefore calling on the government to expedite the assessment and payment process to enable them to recover from the losses suffered as a result of the project.
The Assembly Member for the Yawkwei Electoral Area, Alhassan Abdullai, confirmed the concerns and appealed to the government to address the matter.
He said the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, had assured the affected residents that arrangements were being made for the payment of their compensation.
The residents are hopeful that the government will honour the assurance and settle the outstanding claims as soon as possible.
