Ghanaian actor and football academy owner Yaw Dabo has become one of the unexpected stars of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a series of humorous moments involving former England captain John Terry and England midfielder Jude Bellingham.
Dabo, who travelled to the United States to support the Black Stars during their World Cup campaign, found himself at the centre of social media conversations after being mistaken for a child during Ghana’s Group L clash against England.
During a live television broadcast, a commentator spotted the actor enthusiastically cheering while holding the World Cup trophy replica and referred to him as an “adorable kid” and a “little man”, apparently unaware that he was looking at one of Ghana’s most recognizable Kumawood actors.
The amusing mix-up quickly went viral, with many Ghanaians sharing clips of the moment across social media platforms.
The laughter did not end there as Dabo also had lighthearted encounters with football personalities including John Terry and Jude Bellingham, who also mistook him for a young, overexcited football fan because of his diminutive physique.
The actor appeared to take the moments in good spirits and he grabbed the opportunity to spark conversations and capture photo with the football stars while continuing to cheer on the Black Stars.
Dabo has been actively involved in Ghana’s World Cup coverage and was recently seen at the Black Stars’ training camp, where he encouraged the players ahead of their crucial encounter with England and urged them not to be intimidated by their opponents.
What began as a football trip has now turned into one of the tournament’s most talked-about side stories, with many fans praising Dabo for bringing humour and positive energy to Ghana’s World Cup journey.
