Owner and Bankroller of Skyy FC, Wilson Arthur has thrown his support behind the premier league clubs in their quest to represent the country in the CAF Champions League at the expense of the division one clubs following the introduction of the Normalization Committee’s special competition.

Though Wilson’s club is in division one, he believes the call by the premier league clubs is a good one since their argument are backed by the football regulations of Ghana.

“If you take the Ghana football regulations into consideration, it is the premier clubs that should represent Ghana in the CAF champions league. So if we are creating two-tier league, it is only fair to let the premier teams play in tier one in order to represent the country in the CAF champions league. We have to say the truth; what the premier league teams are asking for is nothing abnormal.” He said.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wassa-East believes it is wrong for players to be paid directly by the Normalization Committee; and for that matter, he supports the premier league clubs.

“It is not proper for the normalization committee to say they will pay half of the tournament money to the players directly; it is not done. The club administrators pay signing-on fee, for instance, a player can be paid GHC50,000 and if you divide that amount by a year [twelve months], you will see that clearly the players are being paid their monthly salary; so that assertion that Ghanaian players are not being paid is inappropriate.” He added.

The interim body has come under mounting pressure amid claims of non-performance which continues to threaten local football in the country.
