The World Food Program is commending government of Ghana for prioritizing food security and nutrition and its determination to achieve zero hunger in Ghana.
In an appreciation letter signed by Rukia Yacoub (Ms) country director and representative of World Food Programme addressed to the finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta, the WFP expressed it gratitude to government for clearing some outstanding counterpart cash contribution Ghana owed since 2008.
The Republic of Ghana owed the WFP an outstanding counterpart cash contribution to the tune of GHC 24,089,146.00 between 2008 to 2016, a situation which nearly put Ghana in risk of not meeting the 2030 sustainable development goals.
World Food Programme says it is developing its country strategic plan (CSP) for 2019-2023) anchored on the 2018-2022 United Nations Sustainable Development Partnership in Ghana.
According to WFP, the strategy will support government Coordinated Programme of economic and social development.
A national zero hunger strategy review has been undertaken to identify the gaps the country faces in its quest to achieve zero hunger.
Rukia Yacoub urged Ghana to work to achieve a hunger free society and prevent malnutrition.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri constituency and chairman of foreign affairs committee of Parliament, Frank Annoh Dompreh in an interview with Adom News’ Maxwell Kudekor urged government to continue working on access roads to farming communities and linkages to market sources and also focus on non – traditional exports.
He is optimistic that, President Akuffu Addo’s government will not leave any stone unturned in its quest to build Ghana with zero hunger and eliminate malnutrition.
