The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will return to power in 2020 because Ghanaians are disappointed with the New Patriotic Party government three months after winning political power.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra on Wednesday 12 April, the chairman of the party, Kofi Portuphy, said the NDC would reorganise to wrest power from the NPP in the 2020 polls.

Expressing confidence in the party’s chances in the next elections, Mr Portuphy noted that the NPP’s “deceitful nature” is being exposed daily.

“The NDC can do it again, not in eight years but, God willing, in four years. Why am I optimistic that the NDC can bounce back in 2020? Don’t we hear Ghanaians expressing regret that they have exchanged their colour TVs for black-and-white? Don’t we hear expressions of anger from trotro and taxi drivers over incessant increases in fuel prices contrary to what Nana Akufo-Addo promised them during their campaign? Don’t we hear the anger and disappointment of parents who are now being told by President Akufo-Addo that the Free SHS is not free for all SHS students?” he quizzed.

Mr Portuphy noted that the NDC will re-organise, unite and emerge stronger, having learnt their lessons. “The NDC will be back,” he added.
