Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has assured Ghanaians living abroad that government remains committed to protecting and supporting its citizens wherever they may be.

He gave the assurance on Wednesday, May 27, after leading a government delegation to receive nearly 300 Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals.

The evacuees arrived at the Accra International Airport as part of an ongoing repatriation exercise coordinated by the government.

Addressing the returnees, Mr. Debrah encouraged them not to lose hope despite the difficult experiences many of them endured abroad.

“As a nation, we shall always stand by our people, no matter where you find yourself. Be encouraged and believe that it shall be well,” he said.

He told the evacuees that returning home should not be seen as a setback, but rather an opportunity to begin a new chapter in life.

According to him, moments of hardship can sometimes lead to unexpected opportunities and breakthroughs.

“God works in mysterious ways,” he added.

Mr. Debrah further assured the returnees that government would continue to support their welfare and reintegration as they settle back into life in Ghana.

The evacuation exercise was launched in response to renewed fears and reports of attacks and intimidation against foreign nationals in parts of South Africa.
