The Secretary to the Kantanka Family, Dr. Phillip Siaw Kissi, says the family will continue to rely on the courts to resolve the ongoing dispute over the funeral arrangements for the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Prof. Emeritus Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Speaking to Adom News, Dr. Kissi stressed that the family has no intention of taking the law into its own hands despite reports that the funeral is proceeding at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region.
According to him, the family has gathered intelligence suggesting there is no casket containing the late Apostle’s body at the funeral grounds.
“For the family, we believe in the laws of this country. We will not take the law into our own hands,” he said.
Dr. Kissi explained that the family had observed a Transition Funeral Services hearse and a casket, but insisted they believe the late Apostle’s body is not inside.
“From the intelligence available to us, we have not seen any casket with the body at the funeral grounds in Mpota. We know the body was said to be at Transition Funeral Home, and the only Transition hearse we have seen had a casket inside. We don’t know whether they are trying to trick us or what,” he stated.
“We have seen the Transition hearse and the casket inside it, but we believe there is no body in the casket,” he added.
He said the family would continue to seek legal remedies to determine the whereabouts of the body.
“Like I said, because we don’t want to take the law into our own hands, we believe in the laws of this country. It is only the court that can help us, just as it granted the injunction on the funeral. Through the court, we hope to know where the body is,” Dr. Kissi said.
The dispute over the funeral arrangements follows a legal battle among members of the Safo family.
On Wednesday, an Accra High Court granted a 10-day interim injunction restraining former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, from proceeding with the funeral after an application by other members of the family.
Despite the court order, funeral activities organised by Sarah Adwoa Safo for her late father are ongoing at Gomoa Mpota, where hundreds of mourners, church members, dignitaries and sympathisers have gathered to pay their final respects to the renowned inventor, industrialist and religious leader.
