CEO of Three Dreamers, Bismark Offei Ansah, has recounted the devastating impact of last Monday’s heavy rains, describing how floods destroyed goods worth millions of cedis at his warehouse along the Tema Motorway.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said the intensity of the rainfall was unlike anything he had experienced in recent years.

“Last Monday, the rains that fell were unlike anything we have seen since 2018. We don’t know how it started or how it came about, but the rainfall was extremely heavy,” he said.

According to him, the downpour led to severe flooding that overwhelmed drainage systems along the motorway.

“The construction around the Tema Motorway has an underbridge. We saw the water coming heavily from the motorway area, breaking down a wall of a company close to ours and then moving straight to our warehouse,” he explained.

He said the force of the water destroyed parts of their facility and led to the loss of goods stored in the warehouse.

“The pressure of the rain was so much that we could not do anything. The water entered our warehouse, broke the wall and our goods started being washed away,” he said.

He further revealed that some people attempted to pick up items that had been swept away by floodwaters, but he instructed his workers to stay away for safety reasons.

“When people saw it, they rushed to pick the items being washed away by the water. But I told my workers not to go near it because their lives were more important than the goods,” he added.

He estimated that goods worth more than GH¢25 million were destroyed in the flood, in addition to damage to machinery.

“We have lost a lot. Our goods worth over GH¢25 million have all gone to waste, apart from machines that were also damaged,” he said.

Despite the losses, he expressed gratitude that no lives were lost.

“We thank God that no life was lost. We could not risk lives for material things,” he stressed.

Mr. Ansah also noted that members of the Church of Pentecost, including the local chairman, visited the scene to assess the damage. He added that his Member of Parliament also sent representatives to inspect the situation.

His comments come after residents in parts of Accra were seen collecting items carried away by floodwaters following last Monday’s heavy rains.

Videos circulating on social media showed crowds scrambling through flooded streets and debris to retrieve goods washed out of warehouses along the Tema Motorway and surrounding communities.

The recovered items reportedly included foodstuffs, toiletries, gas cylinders and electrical appliances.
