We don’t need a new register for our victory – NPP

Yaw Buaben Asamoah, Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is of the view that the incumbent government does not need a new Voters Register to ensure its victory in the 2020 elections.

According to Mr Asamoah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency, the NPP has backed the Electoral Commission (EC)’s decision to compile a new register because it is necessary.

“The issue here is for us to have a credible register for the electoral process because the existing one is bloated as the EC has clarified,” he said.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam, Mr Asamoah insisted a new register will ensure the smooth running of the 2020 upcoming elections.

“We don’t need a new register for victory because all the years we proposed for the compilation of a new register, we lost the elections,” he added.

The EC’s decision to compile a new register and procure new biometric machines has been met with resistance from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other opposition parties who have held series of demonstrations to register their displeasure.

The NDC is of the view that the compilation is illogical and a waste of taxpayers’ money because the EC can upgrade the existing register instead of a new register.
