Black Satellites head coach Maxwell Konadu says Ghana’s disappointing outing at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship will serve as motivation for the team as they prepare for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana’s campaign at the regional tournament ended prematurely after the team finished third in Group B with just two points from three matches.
The Black Satellites sealed their elimination following a goalless draw against Togo in their final group game, a result that capped a frustrating tournament for the West African giants.
Despite the underwhelming performance, Konadu believes the experience will help the young players identify their weaknesses and return stronger ahead of next year’s continental competition.
The former Asante Kotoko coach urged his players not to lose confidence, insisting the setback should be viewed as part of their development process.
“This is not going to demotivate us. Rather, it will encourage us to give our best. We have to move on, reorganise ourselves and come back stronger,” Konadu said.
Ghana, who have a rich history in youth football, will host the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as part of celebrations marking the country’s 70th Independence Anniversary.
With home advantage on their side, expectations will be high for the Black Satellites to recover from their WAFU B disappointment and compete strongly for continental glory.
