Two people have been confirmed dead after a horrific multi-vehicle collision involving a State Transport Company (STC) bus, two fuel tankers, a Kia Sorento and a Mitsubishi pick-up at Etukrom, near Bunso Junction in the Eastern Region.
The crash, which occurred on Monday, August 3, triggered a massive fire that engulfed the STC bus, one of the fuel tankers and the Mitsubishi pick-up.
According to emergency responders, two occupants were trapped inside the burning vehicles and died at the scene.
The impact of the collision also forced the second fuel tanker off the road into a nearby river, where it subsequently caught fire.
Six other people, comprising four men and two women, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Hawa Memorial Hospital in Osiem for medical treatment.
A member of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Communications Team, Alex King Nartey, confirmed the incident in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.
He said firefighters, together with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the scene to contain the fire, rescue victims and assess the situation.
The cause of the crash is yet to be established, with investigations currently underway. Authorities are expected to provide further details as inquiries continue.
