The Senior Staff Association of the Volta River Authority (VRA) is jubilating over the dismissal of the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

According to the workers, the decision by President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo is in the right direction to protect the public purse.

Speaking Monday on Adom FM’s political talk show Burning Issues program, a Senior Staff Association Chairman from Takoradi, Charles Owusu Sekyere said the dismissal of Boakye Agyarko is timely as demanded by the workers of VRA.

“The documents Agyarko submitted to Parliament are flawed over his claims that the renegotiation deal will benefit the nation and we’re very fine and happy that we have a listened president who has adhered to our call to dismiss the sector minister,” Owusu Sekyere stressed.

“The renegotiation deal presented by the minister to Parliament is misleading and bad for the country” the Senior Staff chairman affirms its position.

President Akufo-Addo fired the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, according to a letter from the presidency dated August 6, 2018.

The President also instructed the sacked Minister to hand over to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Peter John Amewu, who will act temporarily until a substantive decision is made.

The government and the Energy Minister have been at the centre of a controversial AMERI energy deal.

“The simple calculation on the deal clearly shows it doesn’t make business and economic sense to review the existing arrangement to a third party for billions of dollars,” he stated.

The VRA workers had already demanded the resignation of Boakye Agyako, describing him as incompetent and a man lacking integrity over the reviewed AMERI deal.

The staff said the new deal presented to Parliament by the minister for approval is bad for the country, and the minister has no right to continue holding onto his position after negotiating such a deal.

The Minister had claimed the country will save more than $400 million but the VRA staff says this is misleading and an attempt to deceive Ghanaians.

Commenting on the competence of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Peter John Amewu, who will act temporarily until a substantive decision is made, Owusu Sekyere said the workers are happy that a new minister is managing the affairs of the ministry.

He also urged the minister to embark on some reforms to ensure sanity at the ministry looking at the Ameri mess.
