The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured a combined 22-year prison sentence for two convicted thieves in separate stealing-related cases in the region.
The convicts, Nasiru Muftawu, 20, and Eric Salia, 36, were sentenced by the Wa Circuit Court after being found guilty of offences ranging from serial motorbike theft to residential burglary.
According to the Police, Muftawu was arrested on July 11, 2026, through intelligence-led investigations after he was linked to a series of motorbike thefts in various parts of the Upper West Region.
He was subsequently charged and prosecuted before the Wa Circuit Court, presided over by Samuel Boafo Amewuho.
Following a full trial, the court on August 5, 2026, found him guilty and sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
In a separate case, Eric Salia was arrested on July 26, 2026, after allegedly breaking into the residence of a public officer and making away with valuable personal belongings.
He was also tried before the same court, convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The Upper West Regional Police Command described the convictions as part of its continued efforts to combat crime and improve public safety across the region.
Police further appealed to residents to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely and credible information on criminal activities, stressing that community cooperation remains essential in preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice.
