Ghana U-20 women’s coach Charles Sampson praised his players for showing “character” and belief as they revived their World Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Korea Republic.
The Black Princesses bounced back from an opening 3-0 defeat by Ecuador to claim their first win at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday, keeping their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.
Sampson said his side responded in the best possible way after their disappointing start, highlighting the determination and unity his players displayed throughout the contest.
“Today, the team actually really showed up,” he told GFA Media after the match.
“They showed up with the character that we know they have in the team. They believe in themselves and each other.
“And today, they exhibited it exactly how it should be, with a lot of enthusiasm and passion. They made up their mind that we’re gonna take this day, and that’s what happened.”
The victory lifts Ghana to second place in Group C ahead of their final group-stage match against France.
The Black Princesses know that avoiding defeat against the French side will be enough to secure a place in the next round.
