An intelligence-led operation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has led to the arrest of 11 suspects at Fafa Community in Tema.
This comes after investigations revealed that two people initially thought to be victims of human trafficking were allegedly coordinators of a cybercrime syndicate.
The two, Godstine Terry, 34, and Wilson Makuo, 21, were first believed to have been trafficked into Ghana, but according to the CID, investigations established that they were allegedly playing coordinating roles within the criminal network.
The Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, addressing the media on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, gave updates on four major operations involving cyber-enabled fraud, human trafficking, and illicit firearms trafficking.
COP Donkor said the operation at Fafa Community was carried out after the CID received intelligence on suspected cybercrime activities in the area. She said suspects, victims, and exhibits recovered from the raid have since been handed over to the CID’s Cybercrime Unit for further investigation.
COP Donkor said six of the 11 people picked up in the operation were confirmed to be trafficking victims who had been brought into Ghana from Nigeria. It was only as investigations progressed that Terry and Makuo were identified as alleged ringleaders directing the syndicate’s operations.
A third person, known only as Jerry, who COP Donkor said is suspected of helping smuggle the victims into Ghana, is on the run, and police are actively hunting for him.
