Two people have died and four others sustained injuries after a tipper truck and a Nigerian passenger bus collided head-on at Abease on the Elubo-Takoradi Highway on Friday, June 26.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at 11:53 am about the collision, which involved a Sinotruck Howo tipper truck with registration number GS 3789-24 and a Nigerian passenger bus bearing registration number AAA 449 YN Lagos.
A five-member rescue team led by Assistant Divisional Officer II Clement Arthur was immediately dispatched from the Elubo Fire Station and arrived at the scene within minutes.
Upon arrival, the crew found six people trapped in the wreckage, five from the passenger bus and one from the tipper truck.

Three had already been freed by members of the public before the fire crew arrived.
Firefighters removed the remaining trapped victims and transported the injured persons to the Elubo Government Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Nigerian passenger bus was pronounced dead at the scene, while the mate of the tipper truck died later at the hospital. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital morgue.

Preliminary investigations suggest the crash occurred when the bus driver swerved to avoid a pothole, causing the vehicle to veer into the path of the oncoming tipper truck.
