TUC Warns of Possible Strike Over Alleged Unequal Salary Increases in Public Sector
The General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, has issued a strong warning that organised labour could resort to strike action if the government fails to address growing concerns over alleged unequal salary adjustments in the public sector.
Speaking at the 2026 Annual Labour Conference in Ho on Friday, June 26, Ansah expressed serious worry about reports suggesting that some categories of public sector workers received massive pay increases while others were offered much less.
“We were all flabbergasted by a news flash yesterday, and we are yet to confirm that some people in this country have increased their salaries by 100%,” he said.
“We are searching, we are delving deep into this matter to ensure that we have the right information. You can’t just give us 9% and go increase yours by 100%. We are all in this country,” Ansah added.
He stressed that if the reports turn out to be true, labour will demand fairness and equal treatment in the distribution of national resources.
“If it is not true, let us know. But if it is true, then get ready to share the cake equally. Otherwise, strike,” he warned.
Ansah reminded the government that industrial action remains a legitimate tool for workers when dialogue fails.
“If you push us to the wall, we will strike. We are only happy because we think that we have not gotten there yet, but if they push us there, we will strike. That is the only way we can redeem our rights,” he said.
