The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three men in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a man at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The suspects have been identified as Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28. They were arrested at different locations in Sang in the Mion District on September 29, 2026.

According to the Police, the arrests follow the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, on September 25.

Preliminary investigations indicate that four armed men attacked Mawudu and his brother at their residence before taking him away.

The abductors later contacted the victim’s family and allegedly demanded GH¢100,000 in exchange for his release.

The victim, however, managed to escape from his captors and was assisted by some farmers in Sambu, who took him to a clinic for medical attention.

Police officers subsequently proceeded to the facility and engaged Mawudu, who told investigators that he had been held at an undisclosed location under the guard of armed men before his escape.

Police said the victim later identified all three arrested suspects from photographs during the investigation.

Further investigations have also allegedly linked the suspects to other robbery incidents recorded in the area.

The three suspects remain in Police custody and are assisting with investigations as officers work to apprehend the remaining alleged accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the abduction.
