While many are focused on the Black Stars, 13 young Ghanaian teenagers are quietly sweating, pushing, and believing at the Borteyman Sports Complex — Ghana’s official base for Dakar 2026.
History is about to be made.
For the first time ever, the Olympic Games will be held on African soil. Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. October 31 to November 13, 2026. Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly in Senegal. About 2,700 of the world’s best athletes aged 15 to 18. And Ghana will be there.
The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has confirmed Team Ghana will present 13 athletes across 8 sports – and right now, they are all camped at Borteyman, turning talent into readiness.

Chef de Mission Evans Yeboah calls them “well-trained & prepared” – not just to compete, but to return as “changemakers and global ambassadors” embodying Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

– ATHLETICS – Our Hurdle Hopes: The track is burning. Mary Coffie – women’s 400m hurdles – and Stephen Oduro Jnr – men’s 400m hurdles – two names to watch. Two young hearts carrying Ghana’s speed.
– BADMINTON: One shuttle, one dream. Adu-Mintah Obapomba is training hard.
– BEACH VOLLEYBALL: Sand, sun and power. Justice Adusei Amoafo & Daniel Lartey are building chemistry.
– BOXING: The ring is calling. Robert Amartey Tagoe (70kg) is punching his way to Dakar.
– JUDO: Strength and technique. Bernice Mawena Akakpo (-63kg) is ready to throw opponents.
– SWIMMING – Our Largest Contingent: Borteyman pool is perfect for them. Kelvin Abdallah, Mercedes Abdallah, Tamba Akin Boamah, and Jada Christiana Yankey – four aquatic stars making waves.
– TABLE TENNIS: Quick hands, sharp eyes. Joanita Borteye on the table.
– TAEKWONDO: Kicks and discipline. Jessica Mensah flying the flag.
