In a Facebook post addressing prospective recruits for the 2025/2026 enlistment, he urged those who did not pass the medical examination to return to their respective assessment centres to learn the specific reasons for their disqualification.

He explained that applicants diagnosed with conditions that can be treated should seek appropriate medical attention, as they will be considered for a follow-up review.

According to the statement, the next round of medical assessments will be conducted free of charge, providing affected candidates an opportunity to address their health concerns and be reconsidered.

The initiative is expected to bring relief to many young Ghanaians who aspire to join the military but were initially turned away due to manageable medical conditions.

The Ministry of Defence has encouraged all affected applicants to take advantage of the opportunity and adequately prepare for the reassessment once details are officially announced.

In a Facebook post shared late Monday afternoon, Mr. Genfi addressed speculation about the ownership of the aircraft following the fatal incident at Tema Community 1.

“We have received reports of a fatal crash involving a privately owned microlight aircraft at Tema Community 1 this afternoon,” the Deputy Minister wrote. “We wish to clarify that the aircraft is not owned by the Ghana Armed Forces.”

He also extended condolences to the families of the deceased, adding, “We pray for the souls of the departed and extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved families.”

The statement follows confirmation from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) that a microlight aircraft with registration number 9G-ADV crashed while flying from Ho to Accra. Both occupants on board perished in the accident.

Mr. Genfi’s clarification comes amid public concerns about potential military involvement in the crash, confirming that the aircraft was privately operated.

The GCAA has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and says further updates will be provided in due course.

There is no vacuum at Defence Ministry – Brogya Genfi urges patience on appointment https://www.adomonline.com/there-is-no-vacuum-at-defence-ministry-brogya-genfi-urges-patience-on-appointment/ Fri, 27 Feb 2026 09:40:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2635711 Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has dismissed concerns over the absence of a substantive Defence Minister, insisting that operations at the ministry remain fully functional.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Brogya Genfi stressed that the appointment of ministers is the constitutional prerogative of the President and should not be rushed.

According to him, the country’s security architecture remains intact.

“Appointing ministers is a constitutional duty of the president, and this decision does not rest with anyone else. It is unclear how the attack on the fishing vessel is connected to the absence of a defence minister. Many countries have presidents who also serve as their defence ministers; for instance, Kwame Nkrumah once held that position. In our security framework, the president is the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces. The deputy minister is expected to assist the minister in fulfilling his constitutional duties,” he said.

Mr. Brogya Genfi also rejected suggestions that recent security incidents, including attacks on fishing vessels, were linked to the absence of a substantive minister.

He maintained that the ministry continues to function effectively and urged the public to allow the President to decide when to make the appointment.

“Therefore, I do not understand the current calls to appoint a defence minister, especially since we already have an acting defence minister, a deputy minister, and a high command within national security that are all functioning effectively. The focus should be on performance and deliverables rather than personalizing this issue based on who holds the ministerial position. Is there any security crisis that we have been unable to address due to the lack of a defence minister? Let us allow the president to make this decision,” he added.

Senya Bereku: All 71 fishermen rescued – Deputy Defence Minister confirms https://www.adomonline.com/senya-bereku-all-71-fishermen-rescued-deputy-defence-minister-confirms/ Thu, 26 Feb 2026 16:18:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2635440 All 71 Ghanaian fishermen who were left stranded at sea following Wednesday night’s armed attack near Senya Bereku have been safely rescued and accounted for.

Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi confirmed the development on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, describing the rescue as a coordinated national security response that prioritised saving lives.

“By the grace of God, all 71 fishermen have been found and rescued. They have all safely arrived at the Ghana coast and can be accounted for. They are all Ghanaian fishermen who went to work,” he said.

The attack occurred on Wednesday, February 25, during a night fishing expedition in the waters off the Awutu Senya District in the Central Region.

Armed men reportedly fired warning shots, held the fishermen at gunpoint, and made away with seven outboard motors, generators, and other valuables.

The incident initially left more than 50 fishermen stranded at sea after their motors were seized.

Mr. Brogya Genfi clarified that although the fishermen were threatened, they were not physically harmed.

“Nobody was hurt. They were not held hostage. The robbers only wanted the outboard motors, so they took them away, and the fishermen were stranded at sea,” he explained.

He disclosed that he received a distress call around 10pm from the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh, who quickly mobilised and coordinated efforts to support the rescue mission. “She has been helpful,” he noted.

According to the Deputy Minister, the Ghana Armed Forces immediately activated a rescue operation.

The Ghana Air Force deployed surveillance aircraft, while the Eastern and Western Naval Commands joined the operation to comb the area.

“The first important thing was to rescue the people,” he stressed, adding that security agencies are maintaining surveillance in the area.

Although no arrests have been made so far, Mr. Brogya Genfi assured that investigations are ongoing. He indicated that the timing of the attack and the swift response by security agencies are key factors guiding the continuing operation.

The successful rescue has brought relief to families and fishing communities in Senya Bereku, even as authorities intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators behind the sea robbery.

Speaking during a massive Show of Force exercise across the streets of Accra, Mr. Genfi emphasized that the government remains dedicated to modernizing the nation’s security infrastructure.

“Government is fully committed to equipping our security services with the tools and logistics they require to boost efficiency and ensure the safety of all Ghanaians,” said Ernest Brogya Gyamfi, Deputy Minister for Defence.

The large-scale operation—jointly conducted by the Ghana Armed Forces and the Police Service, with support from the Immigration Service, Fire Service, and the Customs Division—formed part of heightened security preparations ahead of Christmas. More than 140 security vehicles and 55 motor riders patrolled the capital, drawing attention along major routes.

Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, warned criminals against attempting to exploit the festive season.

“We want to caution all criminal-minded individuals to desist from unlawful activities. The Police Service is fully prepared to track down anyone who attempts to disturb the peace,” said IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, added that the Show of Force is part of sustained security operations planned throughout the holiday season.

Entire Presidential fleet under review — Brogya Genfi confirms https://www.adomonline.com/entire-presidential-fleet-under-review-brogya-genfi-confirms/ Fri, 07 Nov 2025 10:31:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597356 Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, says the government is currently assessing the Ghana Air Force’s operational needs as part of efforts to maintain a safe and reliable fleet, including the presidential aircraft, which remains grounded in France.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Genfi explained that the review is not limited to the presidential jet but also covers other aircraft that have been out of service for some time.

“We are currently assessing the operational needs to ensure that we have safe, reliable, and effective air assets for national and presidential duties,” he said.

“Many of our helicopters and jets are down, and this discussion includes the possibility of acquiring new aircraft for the Ghana Air Force.”

His comments come after reports that Ghana’s presidential jet, the Falcon 900EX, has encountered new technical faults during ongoing repair works in France. The aircraft was initially grounded due to a corroded fuel tank, but further complications have delayed its return to Ghana.

The Deputy Minister, who recently briefed Parliament on the issue, said the Defence Ministry will make decisions guided by fiscal responsibility and the national interest once the assessment is complete.

“We are going to go through due process, and Ghanaians will be adequately informed when the decision is made — which of our air assets we are retiring, which ones we are bringing back, and which new ones we may acquire,” he noted.

The review comes amid renewed public debate over the maintenance of the presidential jet and the broader condition of Ghana’s military aircraft, with concerns about cost, transparency, and operational efficiency taking centre stage.

He disclosed this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday but said he cannot  confirm the type of explosion it was.

Mr Genfi who is the NDC Deputy Director in charge of Special Duties stated that, the incident was recorded along the border constituencies including Aflao and Buem.

His revelation comes in the wake of claims of dynamite detonation in the Volta region by a leading member of the Movement for Change (M4C), Hopeson Adorye.

The outspoken politician had claimed the NPP used dynamites to scare voters in the Volta region ahead of the 2016 election.

In an interview on Accra FM, he said the blasting of dynamite affected the voter turnout in the region as many people fled for their safety.

The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member was detained at the Ministries Police Station on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 and arraigned before court on Friday and charged for publishing false news.

Mr. Adorye has been granted bail pending investigations.

NDC elections: Brogya Genfi stops Opare Addo’s swearing-in https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-elections-brogya-genfi-stops-opare-addos-swearing-in/ Fri, 16 Dec 2022 19:39:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2196552 The swearing-in of National Youth Organiser-elect of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo is in limbo.

This is because the Amasaman High Court says, the the newly elected National Youth Organiser of the NDC, George Opare Addo, popularly known as ‘Pablo’ should not carry himself as such following an injunction application granted by the court on Friday.

The application was filed by the defeated National Youth Organiser of the NDC, Ernest Yaw Brogya Genfi, together with two other plaintiffs.

In its ruling , the court further added that the leadership of the National Democratic Congress should not recognise Pablo as the National Youth Organiser or proceed to swear him into office.

According to the Court, it granted the 10-day injunction after reading the affidavit of the plaintiff, Brogya Genfi, and listening to his lawyer, Kojo Abban.

In the ex parte motion filed, Brogya Genfi’s lawyers prayed the Court to among others, restrain, “the 5th defendant (George Opare Addo), from presenting himself to be acknowledged and or sworn in by the 1st defendant and or its officers, as the duly elected National Youth Organiser of the 1st Defendant for a period not exceeding 10 days from the date of the order upon the grounds contained in the supporting affidavit.”

A copy of the ruling by the Amasaman High Court

This development, which comes on the eve of the NDC’s National Delegates Congress, follows a hint by the plaintiff on Thursday.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Thursday, Brogya Genfi said he will challenge the outcome of the party’s recently held Youth Organiser election in court.

According to him, the election was marred by glaring manipulations, hence his decision to protest the results through a legal suit.

Mr Genfi explained that Saturday’s poll was disrupted by many unfortunate developments, which were orchestrated to favour the incumbent, George Opare Addo.

Expressing his sentiments, he said it will not be healthy for the NDC to condone such schemes, hence his resolve to seek justice.

“Oh yes, as for that one, I’ll confirm to you; I’ll seek legal redress”, he stresed in his interview with host, Philip Osei Bonsu (O.B).

It will recalled that on Saturday December 17, The incumbent, George Opare Addo, retained his position after a keenly contested election at the University of Cape Coast.

Pablo, as he is affectionately called, beat Brogya Genfi, his sole contender by obtaining 533 votes.

Brogya Genfi, on the other hand failed to annex the portfolio, after amassing a total of 508 votes of the valid votes cast.

Pablo’s win marked his second successive victory over Brogya Genfi, after beating him in the 2018 contest.

However the aftermath of the elections was marked by some verbal exchanges and tantrums between the two contestants on various platforms.

While Pablo insisted on his victory, Brogya Genfi claimed otherwise; leading to a war of words between them as well as as some of their supporters.

He said the three party members must face consequences for what he sees as indiscipline in the aftermath of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Youth Organiser election on December 10.

The MP made these remarks on JoyNews on Thursday, December 15, 2022.

“… I think these three individuals are misbehaving. And to be very honest, I think that the party should sanction them. The party should make them understand that none of them, neither Sammy Gyamfi or Brogya Genfi or Pablo are bigger than the party,” he said.

The NDC held its Youth and Women Organiser election last Saturday.

Opare Addo and Ernest Yaw Brogya Genfi ran for the position of national youth organizer, the former emerging victorious.

Following the election, embattled Brogya Genfi, claimed that the election results were rigged, and prompting him to file a legal challenge.

Meanwhile, Opare Addo claimed that the party’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, was anti-John Mahama and openly supported his friend Yaw Brogya Genfi in the poll.

He claimed that, Pablo as he is popularly called, threatened to end the political careers of many of his supporters including NDC Members of Parliament who openly endorsed him.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Mr Genfi could not fathom why Pablo was pained by the massive support he enjoyed ahead of the National Youth elections in Cape Coast.

“Some people see themselves as special human beings so they called to threaten those who support me” he stressed.

The former Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser maintained that, majority of the people who support him including the National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi did not err.

“Pablo had his deputy openly declaring support for him but he turns around to attack Sammy Gyamfi just because he supported me. This is sad,” he bemoaned.

Mr Genfi said despite the machinations by Pablo, he has resolved not to open the Pandora box.

My focus now is how NDC will come to power – Brogya Genfi https://www.adomonline.com/my-focus-now-is-how-ndc-will-come-to-power-brogya-genfi/ Thu, 15 Dec 2022 09:28:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2195372 Defeated National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Organiser candidate, Ernest Brogya Genfi, says he is not a sour loser.

As an experienced politician, he said he knows he may lose or win, thus, the defeat in the just ended National Youth elections at the University of Cape Coast last Saturday did not come to him as a surprise.

Mr Genfi was beaten for the second time by his opponent, George Opare Addo, known in political circles as Pablo.

The incumbent NDC National Youth Orgaisner polled 533 votes and Mr Genfi polled 508 votes in the keenly contested youth elections held in the Central Region.

Pablo won with a difference of 25 votes. Some supporters of his opponents have mocked him for failing to get his much touted landslide victory.

In response, Mr Addo said Mr Genfi is instigating his supporters because he is a sour loser.

Reacting to this on on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Mr Genfi said Pablo is just stoking fire.

According to him, he has taken note of the ‘unprovoked attacks’ from Pablo but has decided to ignore them due to the wise counsel of some party delegates.

The former Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the NDC said he is bitter about the media war being waged by Pablo who is supposed to be a unifier.

In spite of the incitement, Mr Genfi said he remains committed to the unity of the NDC ahead of the 2024 general election.

“I have served NDC my entire life and I will not do anything to divide it. My focus now is about how NDC will survive and come to power,” he added.

You can go to court – Opare Addo dares Brogya Genfi https://www.adomonline.com/you-can-go-to-court-opare-addo-dares-brogya-genfi/ Wed, 14 Dec 2022 16:32:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2195158

Retained National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has dared his sole contender, Yaw Brogya Genfi, to head to court if he is not satisfied with the outcome of the election.

According to Mr Addo, his opponent is only being a sour loser because the intervention of influence peddlers and political entrepreneurs in the latter’s camp to oust him failed.

This comes after Mr Genfi indicated the processes leading to the party’s Youth and Women congress were fraught with deliberate manipulation of the delegates list to favour the incumbent.

He has, therefore, cautioned the election for him is far from over.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Pablo as he is popularly known, urged his colleague to use the right forum if he so wishes.

“The election is over for me but the allegations from my opponent are baseless and not factual. So he can go to court and stop the baseless allegations,” he said.

To him, the delegates have decided with their votes and it was through that the electoral commission declared him the winner of the election.

According to him, it is evident he erred in his claim of conflict of interest leveled against Mr Ofori-Atta over the issuance of $2.25 billion bond.

After months of litigation, the Supreme Court on May 5, 2020, dismissed conflict of interest initiated against the former Finance Minister by a pro-NDC group, Dynamic Youth Movement of Ghana, led by Mr Genfi.

A seven-member panel, presided over by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah, in a unanimous decision threw away the case and described it as unmeritorious.

Months after this ruling, Mr Genfi has come to the realisation that he was “either chasing non-existent crimes or misinterpreted the issues.”

He took to his Facebook page to apologise unreservedly to Mr Ofori-Atta.
