The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region, Dr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has warned that strict measures will be enforced against individuals and businesses who flout sanitation rules in the district.
Dr. Addo gave the warning during a community cleanup exercise organized by the Ntotroso Youth Association in collaboration with the chiefs and the district assembly.
He expressed concern about the increasing rate of littering in the community, which he said calls for “drastic and rigid measures.”
According to him, the assembly has identified food vendors and shop owners near gutters as major contributors to poor sanitation.
“Henceforth, any food vendor or shop owner caught littering will have their shop shut down, be ejected, and face additional sanctions,” he said.
The Paramount Chief of Ntotroso and President of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Barima Twereko Ampem III, together with the District Chief Executive, Hafiz Dauda, also vowed to support the enforcement of these measures.
They stressed that many residents have become indisciplined about keeping their environment clean, promising that chiefs, assembly leaders, and youth groups will work together to punish sanitation offenders without fear or favour.
The leaders appealed to residents to prioritize cleanliness in order to improve public health and foster development in the district.
