Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has pulled out of the party’s national chairmanship race and endorsed former General Secretary John Boadu.

Mr Boadu announced the development in a social media post ahead of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, saying Mr Crabbe had decided to abandon his bid and support his candidature.

“Sammy Crabbe, an aspiring National Chairman of the NPP, has stepped down from the race and thrown his support behind John Boadu. Let’s win together!” Mr Boadu wrote.

Mr Crabbe was among four aspirants cleared to contest the chairmanship position, alongside Mr Boadu, former National Chairman Paul Afoko and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

His withdrawal removes him from the contest as delegates vote to elect the party’s next national chairman at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

During the party’s balloting exercise in September, Mr Boadu secured the first position on the ballot paper, while Mr Crabbe picked the second slot.

The NPP is electing its national officers as part of its reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general election, with more than 7,000 delegates expected to take part in the conference.
