Rehoboth Properties Limited has refuted recent media reports alleging power theft at its social housing estate in Kweiman, Accra, describing the claims as misleading and damaging to its reputation.
In a statement, the company said the allegations of illegal electricity connections involving hundreds of homes had been exaggerated and failed to reflect key facts, including the status of many of the properties.
Rehoboth clarified that it does not directly manage electrical works or installations for homes under construction, as these are carried out by third-party contractors or the homeowners themselves. It further noted that a block factory mentioned in some reports is owned by an independent vendor who applied separately for electricity connection and is not affiliated with Rehoboth’s operations.
The company explained that of the approximately 400 units cited in reports, about 150 are still under construction and not connected to any power source. Additionally, many completed homes remain unoccupied, particularly those purchased by clients abroad, making the scale of alleged illegal connections “statistically improbable.”
Rehoboth stated that it submitted applications and made payments for electricity meters as far back as 2023, but only a portion had been installed due to what ECG described as nationwide supply shortages. The company formally petitioned ECG and the Ministry of Energy in April 2023, but no resolution has been achieved.
“Connections and meter installations were carried out by ECG personnel,” the company emphasized, adding that it has neither the authority nor the technical capacity to interfere in such activities.
Rehoboth also pointed out that ECG has been collecting estimated bills from residents pending full meter installations, a practice the company said is widely applied under current circumstances.
Electricity has since been restored to the estate, and Rehoboth says it is cooperating with ECG to resolve the outstanding issues.
The company urged media outlets to verify claims before publication and warned that it may consider legal action against the publication of further false or defamatory reports.
Rehoboth Properties Limited is among several real estate developers operating in the Greater Accra Region, offering homes marketed as affordable housing options for Ghanaians both locally and in the diaspora.
