Former Division One League Board Chairman, Lawyer Ntow Fianko has stated emphatically that no referee in this country can be charged  with corruption because it is not captured in the 1992 Constitution.
Issues of bribery and corruption in Ghana football have dented the Image of local football in the country with many describing winners of the league as not deserved winners, accusing them of bribing their way to the top.
Last season, issues of bribery were even worse in the Division One League where referees were accused of calling club officials to demand money to handle their matches.
But Lawyer Fianko in an interview on Asempa FM’s Sports Night Show, said “You can’t charge referees for corruption in Ghana because it is not captured in the constitution”.
At the end of 2016/2017 season alone, the Referees Committee of the FA and the FA’s Disciplinary Committee handed various sanctions against referees for bias officiating but have not been able to nail any of them for the alleged bribery and corruption.
