The Royal Commonwealth Society, (RCS) has announced a new chair of the Advisory Board of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2019 in Ghana.
Mr Eric Seddy Kutorse, who is also the Executive Chair of the First Sky Group was unveiled at an elaborate event held at the British Council.
The entrepreneur and philanthropist is well respected in Ghana and has been involved in the development of various social interventions.
said :
“In order for us to make an impact with literacy, we need direction. So today as part of the launch of the ambassadors I am about to introduce you to our 2019 Chairman of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition Advisory Board.”
“His [Kutorse] aim is to develop Ghana, Africa, Commonwealth and the rest of the world,” Apea added.
An indigenous African industrialist, speaker at many events across the world, including the recent Oxford Summit of Leaders, Mr. Kutortse is a firm believer in the power of education. He graciously accepted to lead the advisory board, saying “illiteracy is unacceptable and we need to do something about it.”
“That is why I pledge my resources, my time for this competition which I believe in one way is meant to achieve the sustainable development goal 4 on education which seeks to give inclusion and equitable education to all,”
He said the Queen’s Essay Competition is not only meant to sharpen the writing skills of students but to improve their research and critical thinking potential as well.
The event also saw the outdooring of five sensational ambassadors for the Queen’s Essay Competition, 2019.
Award-winning Songstress Becca, award-winning actress Jackie Appiah and great music sensations Kidi, Kuame Eugene and Kwesi Arthur, will over the next few months, champion the cause of promoting the competition in Ghanaian schools in order to get more students to take part in it.
With thunderous shouts and applause the ambassadors wowed selected students from public and private schools including: GIS, Roman Ridge, La Wireless, Hydeson and the Akropong school of the blind during a short but impressive unveiling ceremony held at the British Council in Accra.
In selecting the Ambassadors, Mr Apea said the RCS considered celebrities who can be worthy role models for the kids taking part in both the junior and senior competition.
“Jackie Appiah, Becca, Kwasi Arthur, Kidi and Kuami Eugene are not only popular and sensational in their chosen fields; they have also shown a great sense of professionalism thus far”.
The competition which has already begun will end on June 1, 2019.
