The Ghana Railway Company Limited has confirmed that the train involved in Thursday morning’s incident at Avenor near Kwame Nkrumah Circle has been fully cleared and restored to service after being temporarily halted due to an accident involving stray cattle on the railway line.
Speaking to the media, a member of the Railway Company, Daniel Asiedu, explained that engineers worked for several hours to restore normal operations.
“The train has been brought back onto the track after midday following the incident. Operations have now resumed,” he stated.
He further disclosed that management has invited leaders of cattle sellers to an emergency meeting scheduled for Friday at 10am to address the situation.
“We have invited the leadership of the cattle sellers for a meeting on Friday at 10am. This engagement is to find a lasting solution and prevent such incidents from happening again,” he added.
Mr. Asiedu noted that the incident, which involved a train colliding with stray cattle that had strayed onto the railway corridor, raises serious safety concerns.
Earlier, eyewitnesses who spoke to Adom News when reporter Jagri Boaz Binyinjom visited the scene described how the train came to an abrupt stop following the collision.
Some residents and commuters have also reacted strongly to the incident, calling for strict enforcement measures against owners of stray cattle.
“This is becoming too frequent. Authorities must punish people who allow their cattle to roam onto railway lines,” one commuter said.
They stressed that the presence of stray cattle on railway lines poses a serious risk to human life, transport safety, and railway operations, and urged authorities to take decisive action to prevent future occurrences.
