Queen mothers across the Ashanti Region have pledged their unwavering support to the newly nominated Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Bonsu, while expressing appreciation to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for her nomination.

The queen mothers described the selection as a moment of joy for Asanteman and pledged to work closely with her to promote unity, preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Asante Kingdom, and support its development.

Nana Ama Bonsu succeeds Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who reigned for eight years before her passing about a year ago. She becomes the 15th Asantehemaa and hails from the Oyoko Royal Family.

During a traditional ceremony at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II summoned the Kokofuhemaa, Kenyasehemaa, the Kontimso and Nkonson of the Asantehemaa Stool, the Otumfuo Gyaasehene, and the Oyoko Abohyen Abusuapanin to officially announce the selection of Nana Ama Bonsu as the new Asantehemaa.

Following the announcement, the delegation proceeded to her family residence opposite the Manhyia Palace to formally inform her of the King’s decision and escort her to the Asantehemaa’s Palace.

She was accompanied on foot to the palace amid drumming, singing and jubilation, where she was traditionally welcomed. White powder was sprinkled as a symbolic gesture of celebration and goodwill.

At the palace, Nana Ama Bonsu was taken to the Asantehemaa’s place. In the presence of traditional leaders and elders, she was formally informed of her enstoolment by Otumfuo’s linguist, Baffour Kantankrakyi, after which she received homage from well-wishers and dignitaries.

Speaking after the ceremony, several queen mothers and elders of the Asantehemaa Stool thanked Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the confidence reposed in Nana Ama Bonsu.

They pledged their full support and loyalty to the new Asantehemaa, expressing optimism that her leadership would strengthen the Ashanti Kingdom and promote the welfare of its people.
