The Birim Youth Association (BiYA) has petitioned the Office of the Chief of Staff to publish the findings of a reported National Investigations Bureau (NIB) inquiry involving the Birim Central Municipal Assembly.
The association says making the report public would provide clarity on the matter and allow citizens to understand the outcome of the investigation based on the findings of a state investigative institution.
Speaking at a press conference in Akyem Oda, Convenor of BiYA, Kingsly G. Adofo, said the matter was brought before the Office of the Chief of Staff in February 2026 and was subsequently referred to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for investigation.
According to Mr Adofo, the association has been informed that the NIB conducted the investigation and submitted its report to the relevant authorities.
He said the youth group believes the publication of the findings would help promote transparency and ensure that public discussions on the matter are guided by the outcome of the official investigation.
“We have become aware that somewhere in February 2026, a petition concerning this matter was brought to your office, upon which the issue was referred to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for subsequent investigation by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB),” the petition stated.
Mr Adofo stressed that BiYA was not seeking to determine the outcome of the matter or make a judgment on any individual involved.
Rather, he said, the association was calling for the reported investigation report to be made available so the public could better understand the findings.
He said releasing the report would help strengthen accountability, fairness and transparency while enhancing confidence in state investigative institutions.
“Unfortunately, the continued discussion of this matter on various media platforms despite an investigation being conducted creates a situation where public opinion may be influenced without the benefit of the official findings of a very competent state institution,” the association stated.
According to Mr Adofo, publication of the findings would also help safeguard the reputations and rights of persons connected to the matter, particularly given the level of public interest surrounding it.
He further appealed to the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, to support the call for the publication of the findings.
Mr Adofo said making the report public would allow the matter to be considered on the basis of the outcome of the investigation rather than information circulating through various media platforms.
“We therefore respectfully petition your office to publish the findings and outcome of the investigation to the public,” the group stated.
BiYA expressed confidence that the Office of the Chief of Staff would give the petition due consideration.
The association maintains that publishing the findings, subject to any applicable legal or investigative restrictions, would provide clarity and reinforce public confidence in the processes used by state institutions to investigate matters of public interest.
