President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his support for reforms within the Ghana Prisons Service, stressing the need to improve conditions for both inmates and officers.
Speaking at the Jubilee House, President Mahama noted that “prison is not a place to wish your enemy,” underscoring the importance of humane conditions and a more rehabilitative system.

He made the remarks when he received the Ghana Prisons Service Council, led by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who briefed him on the current state of the prisons and the urgent need for transformation.
The Council highlighted key challenges facing the Service and called for a comprehensive approach to reform.
In response, the President assured the delegation of government’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised and improving infrastructure and welfare within the system.
He also endorsed the “Think Prison, Think 360 Agenda,” a reform initiative aimed at adopting a holistic approach to prison management, with a focus on rehabilitation, reintegration, and the well-being of both inmates and prison staff.
The meeting was attended by Council Chairman Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi and Director-General of Prisons Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, among other officials.
