Two police officers at the Kwahu Nkwatia Police station have been detained by the Nkawkaw Divisional police command in the Eastern region following the demise of a suspected drug peddler in their custody.

Detective Corporal Dominic Afram and General Constable Vincent Tinati have been charged are believed to have been negligent in discharge of their duty resulting to the demise of the suspect known as Kwadwo Atuobi.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nkatiah Yeboah in an interview with Adom FM’s Maxwell Kudekor Tuesday confirmed the arrest of the two officers

He said messrs Corporal Afram and Constable Tinati are suspected to have flouted the Service’s code of conduct.

He indicated that, the police detained the deceased together with a suspect drug peddler known as Owusu for obstructing police in the performance of their duty.

But the drug peddler, he noted was granted bail leaving the Mr. Atuobi whom they accused of obstructing their work in police custody.

However, ASP Nkatiah Yeboah said, preliminary investigations revealed that the two officers assaulted the suspect in the police cells leading to his sudden demise.

He said Detective Corporal Dominic Afram was the one investigating the case and General Constable Vincent Tinati were alleged to have manhandled the suspect leading to his death.

“There is evidence of marks of violence on the decease and we need to investigate whether he had those marks before or after the arrest” he added.

ASP Nkatiah Yeboah indicated that, the Eastern Regional Commander has approved for their immediate interdiction to enable the police conduct thorough investigations into the incident.
