Lawyer for detained nurse Salomey Awity Baffoe, Enoch Afoakwah, has accused the Police Service of being confused over the identity of the person behind the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account, describing the investigation as a “fishing expedition.”
According to him, the Police previously arrested Barbara Okrah in 2025 in connection with the “Ghana Jollof” identity, only to now declare another person, Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, wanted over alleged publication of false news on TikTok and other social media platforms.
Mr Afoakwah said the development raises questions about how his client, Salomey Baffoe, was arrested and detained when the person the Police themselves have declared wanted remains at large.
“The Police is not serious. This was the same Police that arraigned Barbara Okrah in 2025 in Accra Circuit Court and said she was Ghana Jollof,” he stated on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem.
“Now there is another Barbara Osei Kodua who has been declared wanted for the same crime, the publication of false news on TikTok and social media. So it means the police are even confused as to the person they are looking for. They are embarking on a fishing expedition, and it is a disgrace to the country,” he said.
His comments come as the defence team prepares to challenge the continued detention of Salomey Baffoe, who has been remanded for two weeks over alleged links to the “Ghana Jollof” account.
Police have said investigations uncovered an alleged network involved in the production, funding and circulation of the account’s content.
Mr Afoakwah disclosed that the defence has filed a bail application before the Accra Circuit Court, with the application scheduled to be heard on Wednesday.
“We have filed a bail application pending trial before the Accra Circuit Court. The case will be heard on Wednesday, and it is our hope and prayer that the court listens to our appeal,” he said.
He questioned how the Police could arrest and prosecute Salomey Baffoe in connection with the alleged activities while the person they have identified as the operator of the account has been declared wanted.
“They managed to arrest her through their own intelligence-led operation and technological advancement. So how do you arrest someone for a crime when a person you have declared wanted cannot be found?” he asked.
Mr Afoakwah also criticised the handling of the investigation, saying the circumstances surrounding his client’s detention were unacceptable.
He went further to call for disciplinary action against senior security officials, saying that if he were President, he would have the CID Director-General and Inspector-General of Police interdicted, as well as the head of the Bureau of National Intelligence.
Police, however, have maintained that their investigations have established links between Baffoe and the “Ghana Jollof” operation, including alleged financial and communication links.
The CID has said forensic examination of her phone and mobile money records formed part of the evidence gathered.
Baffoe has pleaded not guilty to the charge of abetment of publication of false news.
