A rainstorm has displaced over 2000 people in the Tolon District following torrential rains that hit some parts of the Northern Region, Tuesday.

The affected areas include Nayili Fon, Leman fon, Paleyale, Baaduli, Wulaa fon Lunsi fon and other communities.

Several communities have also been cut off from the district capital, Tolon, after the rain destroyed some bridges and roads in the district.

Some of the affected victims told Adom News that the rainwater has rendered them homeless as they have nowhere to sleep or even keep their belongings.

The residents are therefore appealing to the government to come to their aid.

Some victims of the rainstorm now lodge with relatives in other villages, schools, Mosques and open places, a situation they say has put their lives at risk.

We don’t have places to sleep not to talk of our personal belongings; we don’t know where to keep them, we are scared of thieves too,” some distressed relatives lamented.

In fact, where to sleep is very difficult for us and where to keep our personal belongings is also another major problem so we are appealing to the government to come to our aid so that we can get a place to sleep,” another victim said.

The Assemblyman for the area, Mohammed Somed, said considering the number of victims affected by the rainstorm, it is out of the hands of the district as it cannot do anything about the situation in terms of providing relief for the disaster victims.

We are appealing to central government and donor agencies to come to the aid of these disaster victims,” he said.
