Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North East region are picketing all offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the region as part of ongoing protests against the compilation of a new Voters Register.

Executives of the party are, however, unsatisfied by the turnout and have taken a last minute decision to postpone the protest in about four districts.

The party was able to organise the protest only in the Walewale municipality after members in other district, including Gambaga and Nalerigu and even Yagaba failed to turn up for the demonstration.

Scores of the protesters in the area, clad in red attires and holding placards, stormed the Electoral Commission’s office Wednesday morning to caution officials there to stay away from partaking in the national exercise.

Regional Communications Officer of the party, Imoro Zakaria, said the exercise is one of many that the party is preparing to bring on board to the tell Commissioner Mrs Jean Mensah the country is not her property.

He said the NDC would not sit down and allow the electoral commissioner and the New Patriotic Party government to run the country down, vowing that the party will resist the idea with all its might.

Staff of the EC in the Municipality were at post but did not respond or engage the demonstrators.

The party has suspended the protest in the other districts till next week.
