Some residents at the crime scene

A suspected thief, who was part of a gang that stole goats from Tenguanya near Klo Agogo, a farming community in the Eastern region, has been burnt alive in a car boot by an angry mob.

The thieves, after the operation, were spotted by some young men who gave them a chase on a motorbike.

However, the thieves overpowered the men and shot dead two of the youth who were pursuing them.

The community members alerted residents of a nearby town who blocked the main road and accosted the thieves at Huhunya.

Two of the thieves managed to escape in the ensuing scuffle, but luck run out for one of them who was tied up, locked in the boot of the car used for the stealing  and burnt alive with the stolen goat.

The remains of the two deceased residents – Jerry Tettehfio and Aaron Padi Attarmah – have been conveyed to the morgue at the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua.

When contacted, personnel of the Nkurakan Police Command under which Huhunya falls, confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, while also confirming the incident revealed that one of the two thieves, who bolted, had been apprehended. He was apprehended by the residents and, but for the timely intervention of the police, would have also been killed.
