Staff of the business development unit of the Power Distribution Service at Suame in Kumasi have arrested and handed over an electrician to the Police for alleged illegal installation of electricity meters.
The suspect, Seth Largo, has since been handed over to the Suame Police for further investigation.

He was arrested on Monday morning when he went to the Suame office of the PDS to get support so he could connect some electricity meters he had installed into the PDS main system so they generate monthly bills for him.

Briefing the Daily Graphic in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Manager of PDS, Mr Erasmus Kyere-Baidoo said staff at the Suame BDU suspected foul play since the installation and connection of meters had been awarded on contract to some private companies and wondered how he could come to the center for such an exercise.

The PR Manager said the suspect was a staff of a private electrical company; Smart G prepaid company, which had been contracted by PDS to install a certain quantity of meters and process their documents for connection into the national billing system.

He said the staff became suspicious when he approached them to connect some meters he had installed and caused his arrest.

Mr Kyere-Baidoo commended the staff at the Suame BDU for being very vigilant leading to the arrest of the suspect. He lamented the high incidents of such illegal dealings in the region and pledged to work very hard to ensure that they nip the act in the bud for sanity to prevail in the power supply sector.
