Four Members of Parliament and three media professionals are among the 1,568 newly qualified lawyers officially admitted to the Ghana Bar.
The ceremony took place on Friday, October 9, 2026, following the inductees’ fulfilment of the requirements for entry into the legal profession.
The parliamentarians are Samuel Nartey George, Ningo-Prampram MP and Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations; Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources; Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso; and Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, MP for Awutu Senya East.
The media professionals who have also qualified as lawyers are Umaru Sanda Amadu of Channel One TV and Citi FM, Naa Ashorkor Duodu, a TV3 presenter with Media General, and broadcast journalist Ayisha Ibrahim.
Their admission brings together individuals from politics and the media who have completed the necessary steps to practise law.
Addressing the gathering, Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed said admission to the Bar signalled the start of professional legal practice after years of academic and practical preparation.
He explained that the General Legal Council (GLC) organises the formal enrolment and admission of eligible applicants in accordance with Section 7 of the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32).
Mr Ahmed noted that the occasion went beyond celebrating academic achievement, as the new lawyers were entering a profession that requires commitment, hard work and support from their families.
He urged them to recognise the obligations that come with their new status, particularly the duty to defend the rule of law and discharge their professional responsibilities with integrity.
“As you prepare to receive your certificates, you do not only do so as an individual who has met an exacting standard, but also as officers of the court,” he said.
He then invited Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, who chairs the General Legal Council, to officially open the ceremony.
