One dead, another injured after fire guts fuel tanker at Asutuare Junction

A tanker driver has been burnt to death while his mate sustained injuries in a vehicular fire involving a diesel tanker at Asutuare Junction in the Eastern Region.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 28, 2026, with a distress call received at 4:41 a.m.

A team of four fire appliances from Somanya, VRA, Akosombo and Gbetsile was deployed, with the first crew arriving at the scene at 5:30 a.m.

Led by Station Officer II Achisey of the Somanya Fire Station, firefighters brought the blaze under control at 6:03 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 6:30 a.m.

In a statement, the GNFS said the tanker and its contents were completely destroyed in the fire.

One person, believed to be the driver, was found burnt to death at the scene, while the mate was rescued with injuries and rushed to the Akuse Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
