The National Executive Vice President of the NPP Loyal Ladies, Susan Sika Amo, Friday presented food and relief items to the inmates of the Obuasi Central Prisons.

This forms part of the social and community outreach programs of the NPP Loyal Ladies, whose main aim is to mobilize and empower Ghanaian women in the exercise of their political freedoms.

Ms. Sika Amo, who said the presentation, was meant to ease the plight of the prisoners, called out the Mahama administration forinfringing on the rights of prisoners in Ghana, by treating them as sub humans in the jails across the nation.

She described conditions under which some of the prisoners live as unacceptable, adding if Ghanaians vote for the NPP, their presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, would improve the conditions in the country’s prisons to serve as reform institutions.

Built in the pre-colonial era, the Obuasi prison has seen little improvement in terms of facilities and provision of basic amenities for the inmates, some of whom are serving long sentences for common misdemeanors like goat stealing, food theft and felony convictions such as assault and armed robbery.

The NPP Loyal Ladies Executive Vice President entreated the prisoners to participate in the December Presidential elections and vote massively for the NPP to provide jobs for the youth, noting that most of the prisoners found themselves behind bars due to joblessness.

ASP Rosina Yeboah who received the donation, thanked the NPP Loyal Ladies for their goodwill and encouraged other organizations to emulate the gesture.

Some of the prisoners expressed joy that a major political party was showing interest in their living conditions.

They appealed to the ladies to ask Nana Akufo-Addo to review the criminal justice system in Ghana when he becomes president to reduce congestion at the prison.

The ladies later served lunch homemade by the NPP loyal ladies to the prisoners.
